Creating a Successful Climate for Urban Students. By: Terri Slaughter

Updated: Mar 28, 2021

Terri Slaughter emphasized the need for change by discussing the urban graduation crisis. We must consider why students drop out. The three main reasons discussed in this article are the lack of real-world connections, a conducive learning environment, and technology integration. Students need to connect what they're learning to their life and the world around them. Every child deserves a champion meaning an adult who will never give up on them, which comes with cultivating a conducive learning environment. As educators, we must take advantage of the emerging technologies which engage and motivate our students. The most important thing to consider is that there are ways to do our part to help cultivate a love for learning in our students.
